In Monday’s strip, Mark actually talks to Rusty about going on a fishing trip (well, after checking his e-mail, which I think is short for “eagle mail,” in which Mark communes with the mighty bald eagle for no apparent reason).<\/p>\n

Rusty arrived in the strip one day
\nAppeared on the scene in a hideous way
\nBut Mark had geese to chase and Cherry to shun
\nRusty had to make his own sad fun
\nAnd he was ugly and we knew it, and as dumb as a rock
\nHe\u2019d say \u201cWe\u2019re going fishing soon, Mark
\nAnd you know we\u2019re gonna fix the dock!\u201d<\/p>\n

And the dog\u2019s Up North and so is Trail,

The boy cheered up just the other day
\nHe said, \u201cGlad you\u2019re home, Mark, and gonna stay,
\nCan we fish together?\u201d Mark said \u201cNot today,
\nOff to Canada,\u201d he said \u201cThat\u2019s okay\u201d
\nAnd he walked away but his smile hid a snark,
\nAnd he said, \u201cI\u2019m gonna be like you, Mark,
\nYeah, you know I\u2019m gonna be like Mark.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nAnd the magazine check that\u2019s overdue,
\nAnd they all wait around for you, Mark,
\nAnd the readers have to wait around too.<\/p>\n

\nYou know the plot will have to end right then, Mark,
