I was pretty sure that the Spirit Lioness’ actions were being affected remotely by an implanted chip or something; it’s nice being proven correct, though.
It’s even nicer screwing around with this concept.
While we were in Las Vegas this week, I missed the strips of The Phantom in which Kit has drugged the “Spirit Lioness” and now attempts to discover the source of her aberrant behavior. While a body cavity check was not seen (or at least kept to the never-seen Fifth Panel), Kit was getting mighty friendly with the big cat, all the while chatting her up. All I can say is that Kit is a pretty hands-on super hero.
Give the poor lioness a rest, Kit. I don’t know if she understand what you’re saying to her, or she’s just mesmerized by your endless droning…
It’s been a while since we’ve caught up with Kit Walker. Then again, he’s been hot on the very slow trail of the Phantom Lioness. Is the Lioness a hoax dreamed up by the white devil miners to gain access to Llongo land? A trick plotted by the village elders to discredit Queen Hottie’s progressive agenda?
I don’t know. All I know is that the plot is glacial, pretty impressive stuff for a strip located in sub-Saharan Africa. Good hunting, O User of Over-the-Counter Bandar Medicine!
Spiderman was up against some clown (No! Really!) and defeated him (I think), so now there’s a new story. Peter and Mary Jane are looking for a house! In Long Island! Yes — the most exciting story-line in Spiderman in YEARS is about to begin!!!
I’m trying my best not to get my hopes up…

Having considered The Ghost Who Offers Advice (or at least Supplies Commentary from a Safe Distance), the lioness is on the move!
(Although it’s something we can all agree on…)
This is from the Sunday Phantom storyline, so it doesn’t have anything to do with lions. Which is a shame, really, because just about anything can be improved with lions.
Or monkeys.
Anyway, I think this is an excellent example of improvement.

Sometimes it takes a couple of tries to get the idea across…
Evidently the Llongo warriors have killed the mysterious Lion-Who-Isn’t-There three times! But no one returns with a body! And when they take their Young Queen to the sites of the massacres — there’s nothing there!
Of course, the Young Queen believes them.
Because she’s dumb.
The Phantom suspects otherwise, because he’s slightly less dumb and always worrying about other concerns horning in on his franchise.
But this fantastical story! In the middle of Africa! On the savannahs of Africa! Where the lion is the top predator, feared by all! What could it be?!?!
And you thought tsetse flies and Ebola virus were bad!
And if things aren’t bad enough, with foreigners in the Llongos’ midst…
