Um. Has anyone noticed that the “special” room at the Bum Boat isn’t so much secluded and romantic as it is eldritch and creepy:

Not much has been going on at Charterstone. Yes, Mary’s been helping her neighbor Bonnie own up to her spend-thrift ways.
And god, is that boring!
This small bit of action is about the only action we’ve seen at El Condo de Coma in a couple of months:
I would’ve thought Mary might be repulsed by Bonnie’s eccentric behaviors, but you never know if she doesn’t have a personal agenda. Or want to know.
Even so (thanks to inspirational musings by many folks over at The Comics Curmudgeon), things don’t always go as Mary planned…
Well, not when The Finger is poised.
The first panel of the 7 April Mary Worth was so freakin’ horrifying evocative of those intense, stalwart individuals portrayed in old Soviet propaganda posters that both CC’s Vosh and Calico commented on it. Who am I to say otherwise?
For the record, The title of the poster comes from Vosh: Help Destroy the Kulaks and Wreckers! Mary’s words were inspired by Calico’s words: “Through the efforts of the glorious Soviet worker, we will secure the five-year plan, Toby!”
This was all run through Babelfish, so the title might be a call for eating more potatoes, and Mary might be spouting gibberish. And “Toby,” the last word in Mary’s dire pronouncement, comes from typing “Toby directly into PhotoShop’s Cyrillic text. (Don’t give me any grief that it doesn’t spell Toby or that it spells something else. It gave me fits as how to include Cyrillic script and get something more intelligible — relatively speaking — than ??? ?????? ??? ????. Yet I persevered, since I’m well aware that in the Soviet Union, mashups mash you!)
Uh, and Mary, why don’t you hand over those pruners — handles first — please?

Mary offers a “sympathetic” ear to Bonnie, if she ever needs to talk to someone about her problems.
With our luck, the ear is kept in a pickle jar in Mary’s fridge and probably belonged to some poor unfortunate denizen of Charterstone who mysteriously “moved out” in the middle of the night years and years ago…
It seems that an icy silence (not mollified by any amount of Potato-Ade) between Bonnie and Ernie during dinner alerted Mary to the possibility that all may not be right with her guests. But how can the Mistress of Meddle pry into their secretive lives?
No doubt it will take subtlety.
Diplomacy.
Tact.
Or just out-and-out deceit…
