Good ol’ Rex, accompanying the stricken Edna to the hospital! Of course, June could’ve accompanied him, but the very idea of her in a swimsuit with the Saran Wrap coverup is soo very sexy isn’t appropriate for a hospital environment. She obligingly stays behind — what a trooper!
Strangely enough, June has the same spark of compassion that Rex does — it’s as if they were made for one another!
Maybe she just won’t tell Rex about her gratis lunch, or anything else that happened…
The original strip has What’s-his-name’s sister as a dead (heh) ringer for Dawn. I’m hoping that’s an integral part of the story line, other than the strip artist only being able to draw two types of women (perpetually-adolescent ones with page boy do’s, and old crones) …
In any event, it just screams (or maybe whimpers) for some fixin’:
Then again, maybe the close resemblance was just a peculiar, ah, peculiarity!
Let’s see. Rex and June have arrived in San Diego and the apartment complex they’re supposed to be spying on, only to have Rex suddenly forced to look at some malfunctioning plumbing (funny thing — this is the same term that Rex uses for his gynecological appointments).
At long last, the seafood delights that both of them have been waiting for so long seem to be a growing reality!
Oops, let’s get the name right so we’re not wandering all over the place (one seaside paradise looks much like another, after all…):
AARGH! Spoke too soon. Those clams are sooooooooooooooooooooooo close, too…
Well, it seemed things were going well enough for Dawn and “Jim,” all things considered, but when she throttled into Mary Worth mode, well, you can understand…
(And for the record, the quote used in the fer real and true Sunday strip was one of Anais Nin’s! As Josh F., the Comics Curmudgeon said, maybe we’re in for some “incipient sexytimes.” Dream on, you crazy diamond!)
Meanwhile, in an Alternate Universe!!! (not necessarily a better one):
PLUS! At no extra cost to our readers, the (Old Man) Muffaroo version!
It seems that Dawn Weston is determined to live her life to the fullest, filled with meaning! Education! Volunteerism! Kind works! Too bad it appears to be at Santa Royale General Hospital.
You can do it, Dawn! We have faith in you!
Maybe not a lot in common, but definitely someone who might coax Dawn out of her shell (and her purple pantsuit)…
The Unsinkable Wilbur Weston! The role that Debbie Reynolds was born to play!
There are so many folks at The Comics Curmudgeon smitten with Wilbur’s delighted response to the possibly becoming a Real Riter Writer, that I had to include them here. Maybe he’s saying something (hence the caption balloon), or maybe its the gestures along…if you’ve got suggestions for the Jolly Man, I’ll post them!
The man of the hour:
Some GREAT comments:
“The image of Wilbur is horrifying enough. I’m just grateful that we’re spared the sight of his erection.” — Gladly, the cross-eyed bear
“Wilbur is so excited that he is jazz handsing.” — Liam
“I hope Wilbur doesn’t sprain his hands with that Jolson routine. He’s going to need them to wring A WEEKLY SERIES out of one incident.” — missal
“I’d like panel 2 better if it just had Wilbur saying “SQUEEEEE!”” — Esther Blodgett (done and done)
“Wilbur = Paul Lynde. Saw it right away.” — Chaze
“I think the dialogue’s been screwed up. Clearly, panels one and two show Wilbur falling for the old ‘pull-my-finger’ gag.” — Hibbleton
“Wilbur, unhinged by his experience, now believes himself to be Moses. “I shouldn’t be alive, but I AM saved me! I AM sent me to spread the new commandments in my low-circulation advice column!”” — This Guy
““Yes I Can!”, Starring Sammy Davis, Jr., as Wilbur!” — Nehemiah Scudder
And some scenes I think we’d all like to see (within reason. or maybe not.):
“Given Wilb’s adipose avoirdupois, I suspect he’s unsinkable, short of a Harpoon.” — Écureuil Écumant
“How ironic will it be when, the same day that his first “I Shouldn’t Be Alive” article gets printed, Wilbur chokes to death on a celebratory ham sandwich?” — KreatureFeatures
“Wilbur looks like he’s channeling 1970s Liza Minnelli. “IT’S WILBURRRRRR — WITH A ZZZZZZ” (or a beef on weck…with mayo).” — UncleJeff
“What the Hell is that? Mary Worth’s vibrator?” — Calico
““Yes I Can!”, Starring Sammy Davis, Jr., as Wilbur!” — Nehemiah Scudder
