I never liked Love is…

In fact, I pretty much loathe it.  I’ve never quite understand why it’s “okay” for two naked little kids to carry on in adult situations (falling in love, marriage, having kids of their own, etc.) and be on the same scale of “cute” as the melon-heads in Family Circus.  God help us, they are WAY creepier than the Keane Klan.

While the “love” in Love is… is scmaltzy, squicky kanoodling, we all know what it all really boils down to,  and the creator/artist/whover the hell is running this fiasco has been dancing around it for years:

Funky Winterbean has temporarily suspended the Vortex of Middle Age Doom to return to the Abyss of High School Tomfoolery and Frosh Torture.  Ah, just like the good old days.

Mark your calendars: a Family Circus that is vaguely amusing.  Little Jeffy (#2 son in every sense of the word) complains to his mother, “Aw, Mommy! ‘My Brother’s Clothes’ really isn’t a brand name, is it?”  Maybe he’s not the clod that we thought.

Not that I’m going to pass up a golden opportunity to mash up a picture of pantsless Jeffy:

CC’s own Alfred E. Neuman, intrigued by this startling revelation, conducted a short but hard-hitting interview with Mommy Keane and Ziggy.  It’s worthy of a spot on “60 Minutes,” I think:

AEN: Ziggy and Jeffy have remarkably similar coloring. This suggests the possibility that Ziggy is the father. Do either of you think that is possible?
Thel: Ida know.

Just as things were heating up in Charley’s Love Pad (read, finally getting interesting), Delilah walks out the door!

Even worse, she leaves Mary a note and is last seen boarding a plane or a bus or a train or something.

Yeah, lady, don’t let the door hit you in the purple-clad ass on the way out.

I suppose, to be fair, one really has to analyze the expressions that play over Delilah’s face.  She may be saying one thing, but she’d definitely thinking another.  CC’s Dr. “Bobdog” gives his opinion of this definitely messed-up young woman:

And fortunately for perpetually-aroused Charley, this is NOT a case of Premature Evacuation (not if he has anything to say about it!):

So, the 15 July 2009 Family Circus has little Jeffy answering the door naked and telling the unlucky woman on the stoop that his mother is giving him a bath and maybe she ought to come back later.  Ha. Ha.

Funny thing, Jeffy was in the same position as Becky was in the Sunday Funky Winkerbean (yes, that Funky Winkerbean).  Nice to know that if Becky can’t answer the door, we have a dependable substitute:

While Toby is drama queening all over her current credit card fraud, Ian attends some sort of professor conference in Chicago.  Yes, both are riveting story lines, made moreso when the two chat in the afternoon.

(In the original strip, yes, Ian is in shirt and trousers.  No, it really didn’t help.)

Howabominable (aka Lindsey ^_^) from Comics Curmudgeon then had to go and make things more — uncomfortable, shall we say? — and comment that Ian’s sexy factor could only be improved if he were holding a kitten. Well, okay.

Sorry, I’m not seeing it, Lindsey ^_^

There was some sort of ending in the current Phantom story-arc, and Kit and Diana flew off into the sunset, or the closest nude beach. COOL!
